Website Maintenance
How Do I Find a Reliable Website Maintenance Service?
The difference between a reliable and unreliable provider comes down to a few specific things. Here is what to look for and what questions to ask.
Start with specificity. A reliable maintenance provider can tell you exactly what they do each month. Keeping your site healthy is not an answer. Running plugin updates on the first of every month, checking Core Web Vitals weekly, monitoring uptime 24/7, and fixing any broken links within 24 hours is an answer. Ask for their monthly maintenance checklist before signing anything.
Check their response time promises. If your site goes down on a Friday night, what happens? Do they get alerted automatically? How quickly do they respond? A good provider has monitoring tools running continuously, not just a human checking in once a week.
Ask about your own access. Can you still log in to your site if you want to? If you want to move to a different provider, can you take your site with you? Any maintenance service that holds your site hostage or makes it difficult to leave is not acting in your interest.
Look for transparent pricing. Month-to-month contracts with clear scope are the standard for reputable providers. Long-term contracts with unclear deliverables are a red flag.
Ask for references or case studies from businesses similar to yours. A provider who maintains dental practices and law firms understands the trust and reliability standard those businesses need.
At Freedman Systems, the maintenance scope is documented, the pricing is flat at $199/month, and there are no long-term contracts.
