Website Maintenance

Can I Get Website Maintenance Without a Long-Term Contract?

Yes, and month-to-month contracts are the standard for reputable maintenance providers. Here is what to look for and what to be cautious about.

A legitimate maintenance provider is confident in their service quality. They do not need to lock you in for 12 months because they expect to earn your continued business month over month. If a provider requires a long-term contract for routine maintenance, ask why. The most common answer is that they are not confident you would stay voluntarily.

Month-to-month arrangements protect you in several ways. If the provider becomes unresponsive or the work quality drops, you can leave without penalty. If your business circumstances change and you need to pause or cancel, you are not on the hook for months of fees.

What to verify in a month-to-month arrangement: Is there a setup fee? (Reasonable for initial onboarding, but should be one-time only.) Is there a minimum number of months? (One or two to cover onboarding is reasonable. More than three starts to become a contract.) What is the cancellation notice period? (30 days is standard. Anything longer is unusual.)

You can also negotiate. If a provider offers a discount for committing to 12 months upfront, that is a legitimate arrangement. The difference is that you are choosing the term for the discount, not being required to commit.

At Freedman Systems, maintenance plans are month-to-month with 30 days notice to cancel. No long-term contracts, no penalties.
